Born in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, and qualified from Oxford School of Architecture in 1998, Neil is one of those architects in love with his profession. With a never-ending capacity to produce ideas and through his perseverance and friendly approach with clients, Neil has been able to establish one of the most exciting and promising architectural practices of the South East.
Neil discovered his passion for architecture whilst working as a draftsman in a local practice when he was just 16. Since then, his journey to become a successful and award winning architect has taken him all around the world.
In 1996, after completing the first part of his university education, Neil spent a year in the fast-track environment of Singapore where he worked at the notable practice of Alfred Wong Partnership.
After obtaining his Diploma back in England and following the opportunities rapidly growing markets afford, Neil’s next position was with the RIBA Gold Medal winning practice of Scott Tallon Walker in Dublin. Working closely with Niall Scott, Neil was able to master the modernist principles and high quality detailing, signature mark of this legendary Irish practice. During this time he also gained confidence in the contractual and management side of the profession. By the age of 26 he had completed on site the development of the Pavilion Theatre in Dun Laoghaire, Dublin.
Following a year in Australia at the dawn of the new millennium he returned to STW to become the project architect of the 16,000 sqm Fingal Civic Offices, this time working directly with Dr Ronnie Tallon and Michael Tallon. Whilst in Dublin Neil completed the professional qualification exam and became a member of the RIAI.
In 2003 Neil moved with Esti to Northern Spain where he collaborated with Dr. Fernando Bajo on commissions ranging from large scale projects, such as the internal Olympic swimming pool complex in Vitoria-Gasteiz and new civic auditorium at Azpeitia, to apartment buildings and small private dwellings.
Following five productive and enjoyable years in Spain, Neil came back to England with the idea of starting his own practice and settle back in the UK with his young family.
AV architects was established in 2010, and since then and thanks to the trust of our clients Neil has been able to design and complete timeless and innovative buildings. With an outstanding ability to work, his overwhelming creativity and the patience to develop his ideas until the last detail, Neil is the architect you want to have by your side when you decide to create your unique project.
