Fir Tree House
Make no mistake, we only achieve simplicity with enormous effort.
The dining room extension to Grade II listed Fir Tree House has been described in a multitude of ways, but perhaps our favourite so far has been the photographer Juliet: “ The cantilever must be made out of magic stuff, the whole thing defies gravity!”
This type of architecture is only possible with unique clients who are willing to embark on an architectural journey where they enjoy the best that technology and tradition have to offer and the bravery of their conviction to see their dream become a reality.
The first realisation of the design that we first presented to Mark and Denise was only possible through the close collaboration of AV Architects with Ben Tubb of Paul Molineux Associates Consulting Structural Engineers and the dedication of the contractor B W May & Son and Shane in particular.
A new entrance and Boot Room.
Skyframe frameless sliding glass doors.
Welcoming new formal dining space.
Linked to glorious gardens.
Under the skin
Below can be seen part of the structural computer modelling prepared by Ben Tubb of Paul Molineux Associates that proves how the building actually stands, as we have a 5.5m cantilever in both directions with there being no structural column in the corner. The final structural frame can be seen in the photographs prior to their concealment. The ceiling steelwork gets deeper as it reaches the centre of the room therefore producing an inverted pyramid ceiling.
